Mission-critical services over broadband are defined by 3GPP rather than by a vendor, which matters: MCPTT, MCData and MCVideo are standards, and a compliant client works against a compliant core regardless of who supplied either.
All three reach the user through one application rather than three.
On a public network, a broadband PTT call competes with everyone else’s traffic. The 3GPP mission-critical framework carries priority and pre-emption into the network itself, so a critical call is served ahead of ordinary traffic rather than queuing with it. Without that, broadband PTT degrades exactly when it is needed — which is the failure mode that keeps narrowband radio in service.
End-to-end encryption built in, with 3GPP-compliant algorithms and support for user-developed ones. Encryption is between the endpoints rather than only over the air interface, so the network operator is not a party to the content.
Organisations already on LTE or 5G — public or private — that need the behaviour of professional radio over that network. Where the infrastructure has to survive events that take commercial networks down, it is a layer alongside TETRA or DMR rather than a replacement for them.
