This is where multi-site systems succeed or fail. Voice payloads are small but intolerant of variable delay, so the link needs bounded latency and low jitter rather than raw bandwidth. A backhaul that averages well but occasionally stalls produces intermittent audio faults that are extremely hard to diagnose from the radio side.

Fibre is preferred for exactly this reason. Where it is not available, a properly engineered microwave hop is more predictable than a shared internet path.
